Ruth's New Bike Part 2

I had previously posted my friend Ruth's post about her new bike and our ride around the lake.  Well when she found out, wasn't mad but thought we should each (as in Kristin and I) also write a post about the experience from our own perspective.  So here's mine:

My friend Ruth finally got her new road bike so we for sure had to try it out first thing the next morning.  We needed to start by 7:45 no later so her hubby could make his meetings.  I rode the 4.5 miles from our house to our meeting spot.  I got there EXACTLY on time.  She wasn't there yet.  Kristin rides up a minute later.  Still no Ruth.  Not super surprised cause she is not a morning person.  8 o'clock rolls around and there she is.  FINALLY she shows up a little groggy and very loopy thanks to Benedryl!  So off we go.  It is so fun to finally have friends to ride with.  I get a flat, my first flat on a ride EVER.  But luckily Kristin is there who coincidentally was a bike mechanic before her full time job as Mom.  So yes I did ask her to fix my flat because the last time I did it (which was also the first time) it took me a full hour.  Seriously.  Every time I called Kristin for directions she could not believe that I was still fixing my flat.  Any how I tried to help as in pump the tube a little but it was hard y'all.  I have zero upper body strength.  But I tried to support and encourage her:)  It rocked because all these men kept riding past offering help but we women did NOT need it.  That's right who needs 'em?  So K got it fixed lickity split and off we went.  Oh but the best part which I forgot to mention is that none of us had our kids.  Usually at least one of us has a kid or two in a trailer behind.  So fun to not have any stopping, whining, or fighting: Congrats Ruth on your new bike!  As for pics look below.  #1 The Bike  #2  Ruth and The Bike  #3  Kristin trying to manually inflate the tube and me giving her the "thumbs up great job dude"  #4  Totally me looking like K's slave driver....made me laugh and laugh cause I realized that was probably how I was really acting  #5  K hard at work.  She ROCKS!  #6 Ruth just enjoin' the ride:)

Ok So I'm Stealing:)

So this is my friend Ruth's story about her new road bike and I just had to steal it and post it on my blog. By the way I got a new bike at the beginning of this summer-it ROCKS! Already put over 600 miles on it in 3 months. (patting myself on the back cause we all know how sick Val was just a short time ago and never thought I would or could do biking again). Anyways she just got her new bike and her post made me laugh because she documented the maiden voyage so well and the pics just speak for themselves....ENJOY

I'm in love....

...with my first road bike - a 2009 scattante 660, decked out with Shimano Ultegra parts . (For you nonbikers out there, my old bike was like a honda accord and this bike feels like a porsche).
Here are pix from the inaugural ride with my friends Kristin & Val, who also love road biking. Kristin was the one who got me into biking and took me on my first ride last year when I bought my old bike - a hybrid mongoose crossway 450. So I thought it only appropriate that she come with me again, and Val has been biking all summer on her new road bike and didn't want to miss out, so we made it an event starting promptly at 745 am at the lake.
However, I was so excited the night before the big event that I couldn't sleep. I eventually took 2 Benadryls around 2am. This meant I woke up abruptly at 730 when val called. I was 15 minutes late to my ride, much to val's dismay. I was feeling a little groggy still from the Benadryl, but I did well to not swerve too much or fall off my new bike. Not too far into the ride though, Val got a flat tire. I was of little help as I was still quite loopy and in a very silly mood. Val did help with some of the pumping up the new tire, but Kristin did most of the work while Val supervised and I took pictures.

so we did eventually make it all the way around the lake. can't wait to do it again :P

Technical Difficulties

I have to apologize for my lack of blogging. The summer came and went in a sunny blur. So I FINALLY sat down to catch up on our laptop, ran into the other room, came back into the kitchen and found these weird black plastic squares all over the floor. I couldn't figure out what they were until I sat back at the computer. Yep, that's right, Grey had ripped at least 17 keys off of the key board. Not fixable. So we do have a new computer but with the first crazy week of school (which I will describe later in great detail including how Grey and I are enjoying the 2 hours of drive time to and from school) along with my 11th move in 11 years have not had the time to turn it on. I am actually at a friend's house having a sleepover with the kids so I am able to blog:) Husbands are in Wichita Falls camping out so they can do the Hotter Than Hell Hundred tomorrow morning. Any ways hope to catch up this weekend. Oh but I may not have any pics cause my memory stick has been shoved into the laptop preciously mentioned.

Last Day of Kindergarten:(

This post is a little late but Lucy graduated from Kindergarten on June 3rd. It was a sad day for Lucy and a sad day for Mom. When I woke her up she said, "I wish it was the first day instead of the last day of school". And I seconded that. I thought it was hard sending her off to school but to have her no longer be a kindergartner is much much worse. I don't know how much more of this growing up I can take. Adam, like the first day of school, took the day off to take her to school with Grey and me. I decided that we HAD to go to the Donut Shop for breakfast to celebrate the big day. They had a special BBQ lunch in her classroom and after school I threw a Girls Only Last Day of School Pool Party! The girls had so much fun swimming, eating, and hula hooping. We grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, thanks again to Jason for coming and grilling in case Adam (who was on call) got called in. We ate cookies, Ring Pops, Popsicles, and cupcakes. And the girls were sent home with fun goodie bags and a king sized Kit Kat. After a quick clean up (parties are so much better not inside) and we were home I started to cry-again. I cried saying goodbye to Mrs. Hansen who really is the BEST kindergarten teacher in the WHOLE world! It just feels like such a big milestone.

Lucy did so exceptionally well. She was friends with everyone, had her first little boyfriend Nathaniel (seriously they exchanged numbers and he brought her a donut, along with following her around the playground). She won the Citizenship Award along with many many others. She accomplished (along with mom and dad) her first Science Fair Project, read for 6 hour to receive a free ticket to Six Flags. Lucy was in the TAG or Talented and Gifted Program. And she also got into Dealy Elementary (awesome Montessori school that is super competitive) for next year. I think she is a success and I am bragging! Lucy you are so amazing, smart, and beautiful. I love you so much and am so so proud of you.

What I dealt with EVERY morning taking Lucy to school-Grey sitting down in the middle of the hall, and on the last day the kids got to choose where they sat (everyone wanted to sit at Lucy's table including one little boy yep you guessed it Nathaniel!)

Oh Poor Grammie

So during my parents visit we all (Gpa Gma Adam Lucy Grey and me) decided to go on a bike ride around the lake. I don't have any pics well because see below....

Yep that's right Dianne crashed-went over her handle bars. It was so scary to see my 66 year old mother crash. We didn't have any phones so a stranger took me home to get my car and phone. But on my way back to the part of the trail where everyone was I could hear sirens. I pull up and there is an ambulance, two cop cars, and a fire truck. Turns out DiDi was okay-slight concussion and needed 6 stitches. But was taken to the ER in an ambulance. I'm just so happy shes fine and nothing more serious happened. And we keep telling her that at least now she has an awesome biking scar that Adam would LOVE:) So sorry Mom-but seriously how cool is this biking Grandma.

Austin, TX

We (just Adam and me) had planned a trip to Mexico (late bday present) and even bought tickets (nonrefundable). We were going with some friends for a whole week and I was oh so excited. Slight problem: Adam hadn't thought to get permission to leave the country from his commander. ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. My parents had even bought tickets to stay with our kids. Oh well maybe another year (yeah right we have said that year after year). So instead we went to Austin. Doesn't compare but we had fun and Adam even suggested shopping! I found a dress for the hospital Gala we are going to in a few weeks and Adam got to go to Lance Armstrong's bike shop and see three of his tour bikes (pretty cool). The first day we got there I slept, then slept in the next morning, and after room service breakfast I slept some more. So I guess it doesn't matter that we weren't in Mexico, as long as I had a big comfy bed with no kids! We found a great ice cream shop and enjoyed a night picnic of Freebirds (my fav burrito place EVER)and bat watching (there are like 1.5 million that live under a bridge and all fly out at dusk). I really enjoyed Austin, but have to admit I like Dallas better!
